Drawing floral shapes is one of my main past times, and most of the time, I incorporate what I draw into my wardrobe (be it in the form of a shirt, some earrings, a brooch). Given that it is Halloween season, I whipped up a bat-wing inspired floral bib necklace that I am sharing with you guys today - perfect for any ghoul or punk inspired outfit or even as a small Halloween accent on your ensemble!
- Leather or Faux leather
- Template (available at the end of the post)
- Craft knife or box cutter
- Jewelry pliers
- Eye pin
- Hole punch
Spray the back of your template with some temporary spray adhesive to hold it in place while tracing your design. Adhere to the back of your leather or faux leather piece, then carefully cut the details with a craft knife or a box cutter - you want to make sure it's sharp enough so you don't have to cut through a lot of times.
After cutting, you should have two pieces. Don't sweat it if it's not super identical - no one will notice! If your leather has a crease like mine, iron lightly with a flannel fabric in between, and sandwich to cool in between pages of a heavy book.
Measure to see the angle you need to attach the wings together on your neck - you want a nice wide V shape. Glue one end of the bat wings together (make sure to glue the sides with the heavier floral pattern like in the photo). I used a hairpin to hold them in place.
Use a 1/8" hole punch to make holes so you can attach your jewelry chain.
Finally, attach your jewelry chain using jump rings and a pair of flat-nose pliers.
You can even add some embellishments where the bat wings meet. Isn't it fun and one-of-a-kind? It's even perfect for an accessory for your Halloween costume!
